The Society of St. Mary the Virgin in India (SSMVI)

The Society of St. Mary the Virgin in India (SSMVI) is a registered trust committed to education, medical care, and social welfare. Our mission is to serve the most vulnerable members of society, regardless of caste, creed, or religion. At SSMVI, every individual is embraced as a “Child of God,” and our programs and initiatives are open to all.

Our Roots

The origins of SSMVI trace back to the Sisters of the Convent of St. Mary the Virgin, Wantage (UK). Their dedication was initially centered on uplifting neglected children and women. In 1877, the community began its mission in Pune, embodying resilience, patience, and perseverance to support the city’s underprivileged and marginalized individuals.

Our Journey

In 1981, the Society of St. Mary the Virgin in India was officially established as a registered trust and society. Over the years, our work has expanded, yet our core values and dedication to the founders’ vision and mission remain unchanged. We continue to grow, diversify, and adapt our services to meet the ever-changing needs of the communities we serve.

Our Focus Areas

At the Society of St. Mary the Virgin in India (SSMVI), we are dedicated to uplifting the socio-economically underprivileged through various social, educational, and medical programs. Our focus areas include:

Social Welfare, Education, and Medical Support

We work towards the welfare, education, and medical care of those in need, providing comprehensive support to the underprivileged in our communities.

Administration of Care Facilities

SSMVI administers and manages various facilities, including:

Hostels & Orphanages: Offering safe and nurturing environments for orphans and children in need.

Care for the Elderly and Sick Women
